A field guide, of sorts

The Kind of Austin We Attract

Every city's speed dating crowd has its own personality. Here's what nearly two decades of hosting in Austin has taught us about the people who actually show up.

They've done more than move here

Plenty of our daters aren't originally from Austin, this city has always drawn transplants. But the ones who show up to our events have actually settled in, not just relocated. They have a coffee shop, a running route, a grocery store they'll defend over the one two blocks closer. They've built an actual life here, not just an address.

They're active, but not performatively so

Austin has a way of making outdoor activity feel less like a chore and more like a default setting, a trail run before work, a swim at the end of a hot day, a bike instead of a car when the weather allows. Our daters tend to live that way without turning it into a personality. It comes up in conversation because it's genuinely part of their week, not because they're trying to impress anyone.

They're done outsourcing chemistry to an algorithm

Most of our daters still have an app or two installed. But they've stopped treating it as their main strategy. They're tired of profiles that don't translate, matches that fizzle over text, and conversations that never actually turn into a night out. They show up to our events because they want the real thing: an actual conversation, in a real room, with someone they can read in person.

They set the trend rather than follow it

Our crowd is shaped in part by our venues, and our venues are shaped by the neighborhoods we host in. That tends to draw daters who already know what they like, confident enough to have opinions, curious enough to ask good questions, and genuinely interested in the person across the table instead of running through a mental checklist.

If any of this sounds like you, or like the kind of person you'd actually want to meet, that's not a coincidence. That's exactly who we built this for.
